Here’s what i think: I think it was bad, and pretty weird that back then, when men thought they were better than women. If they didn’t exist where would you be now? Right, nowhere. Second, it was pretty ironic in the United States back then. Women couldn’t vote, it’s ironic because it kind of goes against the whole “free country” thing. It’s funny the whole concept, if you think about it… People thought women shouldn’t rule, yet, a lot of women were rulers/leaders. (Cleopatra, Queen Elizabeth, Joan of Arc, Susan B. Anthony, etc.)

In the book it said that Emmett Till was murdered and after his death his uncle was asked to testify in court for the murder of Emmett Till. When his uncle was asked to testify he was threatened to be killed if he testified because they didn’t want white men to go to jail for killing an African american person. His uncle testified anyways. His uncle choose the right person but they declared him not guilty. I think that really took courage because I was threatened to be killed I wouldn’t do it. I think his uncle was brave and took courage.

Comment: Martin Luther King Jr. was a thoughtful person because he helped poor people of all colors. The book was interesting because it said stuff that people hadn’t known before (including me.)Diane Mcwhorter maybe researched thing’s about him or she was interested about him. One statement was that “He made a campaign called The Poor People’s Campaign.”

Comment:Civil rights is a problem because to many people are being inslaved. Some it is just because of your color. This is not happening in our city or country but it is happening in different places around the world. You being a slave could happen in different ways for example just you being forced to do something all the time. I think this should stop for good. An example is
scott King, Corretta The words or Martin Luther King Jr.
NewMarketPress.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin made a very inspiring thoughtful speech about him having a dream.
Martin was killed because of the speech he made.
Martin had brother and sisters.
Martin has many great well thought out speeches same as his father did because his father was a preacher.
Martin had no friends because of the color that Martin was.
One of the things Martin has said is that “Love is the only force capable of transforming a enemy to a friend.”
Martin was hated because of his speeches.
Martin tried to change the world but at first it didn’t work at first but then it started to change then one day it just clicked and the world was a better place! :)

How come they let white people do everything or get better stuff; For example, they get vote and black don't. Also they get better seats in places. I think that before white people thought that black people had germs or diseases. Of course white people are very clean at that time. No offense. Why or how come they mistreat black people because of their color?, what if the black mistreat the white people and the white were going to fight for their right. How would they feel?
If i was in that situation i would be very angry because I just imagine people mistreating people from mexico, where I am from.

In this world, women are treated more lowly than men. I think this is very wrong. Just because someone is a woman or girl that doesn’t give them any less respect. What gives a women any less right than men. Also it’s no different if it was the other way around. Women should be treated equally to men.
In an article I read, it said a long time ago women weren’t allowed to vote but men. Women through the year worked hard, devoted their lives to, giving speeches, forming women group’s, picketing, writing politicians, anything they could do to change the law. But whenever a women tried to vote they would get arrested immediately. This seems really unfair to me.
All in all, women should be equal to men in everything.

Comment: Civil Rights is when you give the rights to citizens to political and social freedom and equality. Like from 1954 to 1968, the civil rights movement. In the 1950s to the 1960s, blacks were assaulted by whites. Blacks weren’t allowed to go to most places. But then, blacks changed that.

Comment: In the book, Cesar Chavez: Fight for farm workers, the farmers wanted better wages and working conditions. Farmers were only paid $2.00 for picking crops. Cesar Chavez went on a fast because the farm owners would not listen to the people joining the strike. Cesar Chavez fought a long battle. He and all the people that joined the strike were very happy when they finally got better pay but the fight was not over.

Many years ago people had movements that it is unfair and they want their rights to do something thats what Civil Rights are. Before black or colored people did not have rights to do many things. Emmett Till was killed for whistling at a white lady. Rosa Parks was demanded to get off of the white only bus seat she did not get off she wanted her right to get on that seat.
Ruby bridges did not quit of going to a white school she had her right when the other people were protesting and throwing rocks or trying to poison her. This is what I think about Civil Rights.
